About Us

Clear Catheter Systems is a privately held medical device company that was founded to design, develop, manufacture and market innovative devices to facilitate surgical drainage. This company was formed as a collaborative effort between Medical Device Innovations, an early stage medical device incubator, and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation based on technology developed by Dr. Edward Boyle; an Oregon thoracic surgeon, and Dr. Marc Gillinov, a heart surgeon with the Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute.

Medical Device Innovations and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation teamed up to develop tubes designed to help prevent clogging after surgery and trauma.
Our First product is the PleuraFlow Catheter, designed to keep today’s chest tubes clear of clogging with a proprietary tube clearance apparatus. Our second product is the MicroFlow Catheter, a next generation small diameter post surgical drainage tube that provides the advantages of a small tube for minimally invasive surgery, without the concern for clogging that are typical of today’s small chest tubes.

Clear Catheter Systems has additional products in our pipeline to address additional complex surgical drainage issues. Clear Catheter Systems is on track to become a fully integrated commercial medical device company over the next 24 months.
